Illegal agarwood seizure at Dharmanagar: Forest officials recover timber worth Rs 1 lakh

Agartala, 26th March 2026:    Acting on a tip-off, forest officials in Dharmanagar successfully seized a consignment of agarwood valued between Rs 80,000 and Rs 1 lakh this evening.

According to the Dharmanagar Forest Office, the operation was carried out around 4:30–5:00 p.m. after receiving confidential information that a vehicle loaded with agarwood was being moved illegally in the Phulbari area. A team led by the Beat Officer rushed to South Phulbari, where they spotted a vehicle that fled upon seeing the officials, leaving it abandoned.

The vehicle, bearing registration number TR05 J 1749, was found to contain approximately two quintals of agarwood. Officials confirmed that the timber was confiscated between 5:00–5:30 p.m.

Forest authorities stated that the seized timber would be processed as per legal procedures, and further investigation is underway to identify those involved in the illegal trade.
