Agartala, 19th March 2026: Reinforcing its position as a leading center for advanced neonatal care in the region, ILS Hospitals Agartala has successfully managed the recovery of a critically premature baby born at just 27 weeks of gestation.
The infant, weighing 1000 grams at birth, was delivered under highly complicated conditions, including IVF conception, maternal comorbidities such as uncontrolled diabetes and hypertension, and the loss of a co-twin as a stillbirth. The baby’s weight dropped to 900 grams within the first week, placing it in the extremely low birth weight category.
Despite these challenges, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at ILS Hospitals Agartala demonstrate ed high-end clinical capability through continuous ventilatory support, surfactant therapy, advanced infection control, and round-the-clock monitoring.
The case was led by Dr. Akash D. Sarkate, Consultant Pediatrician and Neonatologist, who emphasized that the hospital’s structured protocols and multidisciplinary teamwork played a decisive role in the outcome.
A defining aspect of care was the adoption of the ZEN NICU model, which focuses on minimizing external stressors such as noise and light, ensuring gentle handling, and maintaining strict aseptic conditions—critical factors in managing extremely premature infants.
After nearly 40 days of intensive care, the baby has shown significant improvement, now weighing 1.3 kilograms, breathing independently, and tolerating feeds well without major complications.
This case highlights ILS Hospitals Agartala’s growing reputation as a center of excellence in neonatal and critical care, equipped with modern infrastructure, trained specialists, and globally aligned treatment protocols.
