Agartala, 30th July 2024:  In a disturbing case of familial cruelty, Rajendra Biswas, a 60-year-old resident of the Kanchanmala area near Amtali police station has been subjected to brutal abuse at the hands of his own sons. Reports indicate that Biswas, who has dedicated his life to raising his two sons- Montu and Tapas Biswas is now facing severe mistreatment and neglect.

The ordeal began approximately two to three months back when Rajendra’s younger son Montu Biswas reportedly tied him to a bed and physically assaulted him causing significant injury and leaving him bedridden. The abuse was initially highlighted in various media houses prompting a response from the local Kanchanmala gram panchayat.

In an attempt to address the situation, the panchayat decided to transfer the responsibility of Rajendra’s care to his elder son Tapas Biswas. However, the situation worsened when Tapas, instead of providing the necessary care, abandoned his ailing father at his home on Tuesday afternoon. The disturbing scene prompted immediate action from concerned local residents and panchayat members, who quickly informed the Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate.

Upon receiving the report, Bikramnagar Tehsildar and Amtali Police Station were dispatched to the scene. They were met with a heart-wrenching sight of Rajendra Biswas, still suffering from his injuries. Witnesses describe the scene as both shocking and distressing. Upon arrival of the authorities, Tapas Biswas fearing legal repercussions retrieved his father and took him back to his residence.

The Bikramnagar Tehsildar is expected to submit a detailed report to the Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate by Wednesday. This report will determine the course of action to be taken against the accused.

Meanwhile, the local community has expressed outrage over the incident, calling for strict and exemplary punishment for Montu and Tapas Biswas. The residents are keenly awaiting the administration’s response, hoping that decisive action will prevent such inhumane acts in the future.

“This kind of cruelty is unacceptable in any society,” stated a local resident. “We demand justice for Rajendra Biswas and hope the authorities will act swiftly to address this grave injustice.”

The case continues to draw widespread attention, with the community standing united in their demand for justice and a resolution to prevent further abuse.
