Agartala, 29th November 2025:   Rising traffic congestion and speeding vehicles have led to frequent accidents in Santirbazar subdivision, particularly around the bustling Monpathar weekly market. In response, local leaders and police personnel have stepped forward today with a coordinated initiative to address the problem.

Manpathar Police Station OC Jayanta Das, Mandal President Debasish Bhowmik, Manpathar Market Committee President Ram Babu Reang, and a representative team from the BMS this morning jointly undertook measures to reduce congestion along National Highway-8, which runs adjacent to the market.

Birchandra Manu Manpathar Market, the largest weekly market in South District, attracts buyers and sellers from across the state. Though rural in nature, the market has grown into a fair-like hub, with increasing numbers of visitors and vehicles each week. This surge has caused regular traffic jams on NH-8 and contributed to minor and major accidents.

Recognizing the urgency, Mandal President Debasish Bhowmik discussed the matter with local MLA Pramod Reang and initiated steps to resolve the issue. As part of the plan, a temporary parking facility has been arranged to divert vehicles away from the highway. Police personnel, along with the market committee, were deployed to raise awareness among drivers and encourage them to use the designated parking area.

The initiative, aimed at keeping NH-8 free from congestion during market hours, has been welcomed by traders, buyers, drivers, and local residents alike. Many expressed relief that such proactive measures were finally being taken to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow.
