Interactive session held on setting up tea auction centre in state

Agartala: September 27. An interactive session on possibilities of setting up Tea Auction Centre in the state held today at the state guest house.

This meeting was organized by the Department of Industry and Commerce in collaboration with Tea Board of India and Tripura Tea Development Corporation Limited. The meeting was attended by Tea Board of India officials from Kolkata and Guwahati, tea sellers from Delhi, Kolkata, Tripura, Guwahati, Jorhat, South India and Tripura Tea Development Corporation Ltd. In the first phase of the meeting, the Controller of Licensing of Kolkata-based Tea Board of India Rajnigandha Shil Naskar presented detailed information about the tea industry in Tripura through a power point presentation.

Santosh Saha, chairman of Tripura Tea Development Corporation Limited, participating in the discussion, said that the idea of setting up a tea auction center is being considered for the purpose of marketing the tea produced in the state in the foreign market. “A logo has already been created to popularize Tripura tea. Tea produced in the state is branded as Tripureshwari. In order to make tea available in the state, the state government is making it available to the public at low cost through public distribution system”, said Saha.

He said due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi rail and air connections have been established with other states and various regions of the country.

Saha said that it is very necessary to have a tea auction center in Tripura. I want the cooperation of Tea Board of India for this. If the tea auction center is established in the state, the tea producers of the state will benefit as well as the economic base of the state will be strengthened.

Speaking as a special guest, Abhishek Chandra, the special secretary of the Department of Industries and Commerce, said that there are tea auction markets in Kolkata and Guwahati.

“There is a need to set up a tea auction center here to benefit the producers, buyers and sellers of the state”, said Chandra.

 Additional Director of Industry and Commerce Department Subhash Chandra Das, Managing Director of Tripura Tea Development Corporation Limited Manik Lal Das and Executive Director of Tea Board of India Arunita Phukan Yadav participated in the discussion.
