Agartala, 24th June 2025: The state-level observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2025 will be held on July 1 at Agartala Town Hall beginning at 11 AM. The programme aims to raise awareness against drug abuse and promote collective action to combat illicit trafficking.
The event will be formally inaugurated by Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy. Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights Chairperson Jayanti Debbarma, and Tripura Commission for Women Chairperson Jharna Debbarma will attend as guests of honour.
Other dignitaries expected to be present include Tapas Roy, Secretary of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department, Tapan Kumar Das, Director of the department, and Dr. Vishal Kumar, District Magistrate of West Tripura, who will attend as special guests.
In preparation for the upcoming event, a high-level meeting was convened today at the conference hall of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department. The session was chaired by Director Tapan Kumar Das and attended by senior officials including West Tripura ADM Megha Jain, Joint Director of Youth Affairs and Sports Paimang Mag, Additional Director L. Hrangkhwal, ASP (A.N.) Meena Kumari Debbarma and officials from education and cultural departments.
Speaking at the preparatory meeting, Director Tapan Kumar Das informed that around 900 students from schools, colleges, and universities including NCC and NSS volunteers will participate in the event. Several activities such as slogan writing, poster competitions, and a state-level quiz have been scheduled to mark the occasion.
He further announced that debate competitions are being organized at the district level for students from Class 9 to university level, with winning teams set to compete in a state-level round. Winners across all competitions will be felicitated during the main event.
