Agartala, 22nd July 2025: The Jan Adhikar Sangram Parishad of Tripura organized a peaceful protest at the Churaibari border today denouncing the recent eviction drive initiated by the Assam government in border-adjacent areas. The demonstration aimed to draw attention to the plight of displaced families and demand financial assistance and proper rehabilitation measures for those affected.
Senior members and activists of the organization, including leader Anjan Shukla Baidya took part in the dharna. Addressing the gathering, Baidya stated that many of the evicted residents had been living in the area for decades and belonged to economically disadvantaged sections. He criticized the lack of rehabilitation efforts prior to the evictions, calling it a “serious violation of human rights.”
A memorandum articulating their concerns and demands was reportedly submitted online to the Governor of Assam. Local police from Churaibari station were deployed in strength to maintain law and order, ensuring the demonstration concluded without incident.
Churaibari, located on the sensitive Tripura-Assam border, often witnesses friction due to land disputes and administrative actions. In a public statement, Jan Adhikar Sangram Parishad warned that they may escalate their movement if the Assam government fails to address the demands.
