Agartala, 18th January 2025: The state government has long demanded road repairs in the Khilpara area of Udaipur, a region that has suffered from dilapidated infrastructure during the extended Left rule. Despite promises made before the 2018 government change, it took over a decade for the authorities to take action. This issue has been reported multiple times in the news.
Recently, the state government allocated Rs 77 lakh for road repairs. However, concerns have arisen regarding the quality of the work. Allegedly, the contractor pocketed Rs 19 lakh from the allocated funds and commenced substandard repairs. In the Khilpara Amtali area, instead of constructing a proper drain, the contractor used several bricks, resulting in frequent traffic accidents.
Residents of Khilpara have voiced their frustration, claiming that while the government aims to repair roads in every village, the influence of certain scheming leaders and contractors has hindered proper repairs in their area. “The government wants the roads of every village to be repaired properly, but due to the repeated requests of some scheming leaders and contractors, its repairs have become a rare occurrence in the Khilpara area,” said a local resident.
