Khowai court sentences man to suffer 5 years of in narcotics case

Agartala, 5th June 2026:  A court in Khowai District, Tripura, has sentenced a man to five years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000 in a case under the NDPS Act.

According to a statement from Tripura Police, the District & Sessions Judge of Khowai delivered the verdict on June 5, 2026, convicting Dipankar Das, son of late Dhanu Ranjan Das and a resident of Lalchara under Khowai Police Station limits.

He was found guilty under Section 21(b) read with Sections 25 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act in connection with SPL (NDPS) Case No. 14/2024, which originated from a 2023 Khowai Police Station case.

The court awarded him five years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹50,000. In default of payment, he will have to serve an additional one year of rigorous imprisonment.

The investigation was conducted by Sub-Inspector Ranjit Sarkar of Khowai Police Station, who filed the chargesheet (No. 09/2024 dated 31 March 2024). After trial proceedings, the court concluded that the accused was guilty and passed the sentence accordingly.
