Agartala, 4th May 2024:   Residents of Kulubari have escalated their ongoing grievances over the inadequate electricity supply by initiating a blockade on the Sonamura-Boxanagar road early morning on Saturday. The blockade brought vehicular movement to a complete halt, causing widespread disruption and commuter distress.

The protest began after local authorities reportedly failed to address the community’s repeated alerts regarding the substandard electrical infrastructure in the area. Despite four days of continuous communication with the officials responsible, the residents’ pleas for urgent remedial action went unheeded, compelling them to resort to direct action by obstructing the road on Tuesday morning.

The situation intensified as traffic was paralyzed on both sides, leading to severe hardships for travelers. The blockade persisted for several hours, underscoring the residents’ determination to have their demands met.

Upon learning of the blockade, law enforcement and administrative personnel were promptly dispatched to the scene. Engaging in dialogue with the protestors, they provided firm assurances to rectify the electricity issues. These commitments led to the lifting of the blockade, albeit with a cautionary note from the residents. They have sternly warned that should the authorities fail to deliver on their promises promptly, a larger movement will be instigated to seek resolution.

The incident highlights the escalating tensions between the populace and local governance structures, with the community’s patience wearing thin over the lack of basic amenities. The administration’s response in the coming days will be closely monitored, as it could set a precedent for handling similar civic issues in the future.
