KVK, Sepahijala celebrated “World Soil Day 2022”

Agartala, December 05, 2022: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sepahijala, CAU (I), Tripura celebrated World Soil Day 2022 at Purba Laxmibill Gram Panchayat, Bishalgarh R D Block, Sepahijala, Tripura on Monday.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr Anupam Mishra, Vice-Chancellor, CAU, Imphal. The main objective of the programme is to create awareness among people about soil health and soil fertility to improve production and productivity of the land in a sustainable manner. The theme of the programme was “Soils: where food begins”. Celebration of World Soil Day 2022 was followed by quiz among the students of Purba Laxmibill HS School.

The programme was inaugurated by Pinki Saha Datta, Pradhan, Purba Laxmibill Gram Panchayat; Molin Das, Up-pradhan, Purba Laxmibill Gram Panchayat; Manoranjan Roy, Tamal Das and Sagar Talapatra Teachers, Purba Laxmibill HS School; Prabir Datta, Sector officer, Bishalgarh Agri Sector; Dr Utpal Dey, SMS (Plant Protection); Maisnam Luwangleima, SMS (Agricultural Engineering); Pijush Debbarma (Lab technician); Dr Joy Kumar Dey, SMS (Agronomy); KVK Sepahijala, CAU (I) and others.

During the programme, Dr Joy Kumar Dey, SMS (Agronomy), KVK Sepahijala, CAU (I) and Prabir Datta, Sector officer, Bishalgarh Agri Sector attenuated on the importance of Soils, soil health and soil fertility to improve production and productivity of the land in a sustainable manner.

In the farmer scientist interaction programme, farmers were advised to test their soil before application of any fertilizers, growing of diverse crops including legumes, application of compost manure in integrated manner with chemical fertilizers and production of compost and vermi-compost of their own.

During the programme emphasized was laid on Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) approach, a cost-effective, environment friendly and sustainable approach to maintain soil fertility, productivity and to reduce the production cost.

The programme was organized under the guidance of Prof (Dr) Ratan Kumar Saha, Dean, College of Fisheries, Lembucherra and supervision of Dr Shatabhisa Sarkar, Senior Scientist & Head of this KVK. The programme was coordinated by Dr Utpal Dey, SMS (Plant Protection) and Dr Joy Kumar Dey, SMS (Agronomy) KVK, Sepahijala.
