Agartala, 21st March 2026:   A shocking incident took place in the capital’s Indranagar area late last night, where a house owner allegedly attempted to enter a rented room occupied by several female students and made indecent proposals. According to reports, around 7–8 students sought immediate help through a women’s helpline, prompting police intervention. The accused, identified as Sanjib Ghosh, was detained and taken to East Agartala Police Station, while the students were safely rescued.

This morning, representatives from Tipra Mothers’ and youth organizations visited the police station to lodge a strong protest. They alleged that the landlord had forcefully tried to open the students’ door, hurled abuses, and made inappropriate advances when they resisted. Following the helpline call, police arrested Ghosh and registered a case at the East Agartala Women’s Police Station.

The organizations demanded strict punishment against the accused and warned of larger protests if immediate action was not taken. They also urged authorities to ensure women’s safety and prevent future tenants from renting rooms in Ghosh’s property.

East Agartala Police Station OC Subrata Debnath assured the delegation that the matter is under investigation and, if proven, stringent legal measures will be enforced. The case now awaits the outcome of the inquiry.
