Left body holds protest against Minister Ratan Nath for racial slur against LoP

Agartala, 6th April 2025:  A united voice against the politics of division resonated through the streets of Tulamura as the regional committees of GMP, DYFI, and TYF organized a massive procession and market meeting condemning the recent caste-based remarks made by Minister Ratan Lal Nath. The protest also demanded his immediate resignation and criticized attempts to stifle opposition voices in the Tripura Legislative Assembly.

The demonstration, which began from the CPI(M) Tulamura regional office, saw hundreds of participants chanting slogans and marching through the market area, culminating in a public meeting. The protest was a direct response to derogatory statements allegedly made by the Minister against Opposition Leader Jitendra Chowdhury, which the organizers said reflect the BJP’s divisive attitude towards tribal communities.

Presiding over the event were Bishupada Murasingh, Manindra Jamatia, and Niranjan Sen. Speeches were delivered by GMP Udaipur divisional secretary Anant Jamatiya, DYFI’s Shubh Chakraborty, and TYF’s Rajendra Jamatia. Prominent democratic movement leaders such as Shrivas Debnath, Nikhil Das, Shyama Prasad Goswami, and Haradhan Chakraborty also lent their support and presence to the event.

In their addresses, leaders lambasted the BJP-Tripura government for rampant corruption, negligence toward public welfare, and their alleged strategy of silencing dissent. They accused the ruling coalition of sowing seeds of discord between castes and communities, not only in Tripura but across the nation.

“The BJP is playing a dangerous game, dividing people on the basis of caste and religion. This is not just about one statement—this is about a pattern of discrimination and suppression,” said one of the speakers. The recent amendment to the Waqf Bill was also cited as part of the larger plan to polarize the population along religious lines.

Speakers further highlighted the pressing issues of unemployment, addiction, and administrative apathy, asserting that the people of the state are bearing the brunt of a government that prioritizes politics over people.

Calling for unity between all communities—Hindus, Muslims, castes and tribes—the leaders urged the public to resist the divisive politics and speak out fearlessly.
