Agartala, 2nd May 2025: The Tripura Left Front Committee on Friday met Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Anurag Dhankar, urging immediate action against alleged attacks on CPI(M) workers and party offices.
Led by Left Front Convener Manik Dey, a delegation submitted a formal complaint, accusing the ruling BJP of orchestrating violent incidents across the state.
“Autocracy and anarchy have taken hold in Tripura,” Dey told reporters after the meeting. “Despite repeated incidents, no arrests have been made. Are we not entitled to protest on the streets?”He further alleged that MGNREGA workers across various blocks are being deprived of timely wages, prompting widespread protests and demonstrations, including the blockade of block offices.
“The government has admitted in the Assembly that over 50,000 posts are vacant. But due to procedural delays, those vacancies are being cancelled. Despite candidates attending interviews, jobs are not being offered,” Dey said.He also raised concerns about the surge in drug addiction, poor condition of newly constructed national highways, and rising crimes against women. “The roads have developed massive potholes, rendering them unsafe. Substandard construction is to blame,” he claimed.According to Dey, the silence of both the government and the police on these issues and alleged attacks on opposition workers reflects an authoritarian style of governance.“The ruling party is clearly involved in these attacks. Their intention is to suppress the CPI(M) and prevent us from raising people’s issues on the streets,” he added.
