Agartala, 2nd July 2026: Tripura Left Front Convenor Manik Dey on Thursday accused the BJP-led state government of failing on multiple fronts, including healthcare, electricity, law and order, employment and public welfare, while addressing a press conference in Agartala.
Dey strongly criticized the government’s decision to ban private practice by doctors at GBP Hospital, claiming it had worsened healthcare services amid an acute shortage of doctors. He demanded that the decision be withdrawn and reconsidered through discussions with the medical fraternity.
He also opposed the recent hike in electricity fixed charges, alleging that consumers were being forced to bear the burden of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation’s failures. He demanded the rollback of increased tariffs and a halt to smart meter installations.
The Left leader called for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the death of an employee at Tripura Santiniketan Medical College and alleged a deterioration in law and order, citing incidents of crimes against women, drug abuse, explosions and corruption. He further raised concerns over poor national highways, unemployment, reduction in TUEP work, delayed welfare payments, alleged child trafficking and the eviction of hawkers without rehabilitation.
