Minister Santana Chakma launches ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign at Bishalgarh correctional home

Date:

Agartala, 2nd July 2026:  Tripura’s Jail (Home) Minister Santana Chakma today participated in a tree planting drive at the Central Correctional Home in Bishalgarh, marking the first such initiative within the premises under the nationwide ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister described the programme as a tribute to the sanctity of motherhood and nature. “Mother is the most sacred word on earth, and there is no greater mother than Nature itself. Just as these trees will spread their branches and provide shade over time, they will kindle a green hope for a new dawn and a new life in the hearts of the inmates,” she said.

Alongside the plantation drive, Chakma highlighted innovative eco friendly practices within the correctional home. Two artificial water bodies have been created by conserving wastewater, and fish fingerlings were released today, opening avenues for pisciculture.

The Minister also praised the animal husbandry system inside the facility, where ducks, chickens, and rabbits are being reared. She noted that such initiatives foster self reliance, provide employment opportunities, and contribute to the mental growth of inmates, transforming the correctional home into a productive hub.

Chakma urged everyone to join hands in making Mother Earth greener while cherishing the blessings and memories of their own mothers.
