Agartala, 2nd July 2026: In a move aimed at strengthening the livelihoods of mango growers and enhancing their economic prospects, the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department has decided to expand mango cultivation across an additional 342 kani of land in the Gonda Twisa sub-division.
This was informed by Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath today after he inaugurated the Monsoon Mango Festival 2026 at Narikelkunja, Gandatwisa, Dhalai.
“Our queen pineapple is world famous. I have seen many mangoes, but the varieties of mangoes in Dumboor are really amazing. The state government will promote the Mango Festival more to put Gonda Twisa and Dumboor on the world map,” said the Minister.
The Minister informed that there are a large number of mango varieties here along with high production.
“To promote mango growers more, we are organising this festival and we have extended 342 kani of land in Gonda Twisa for mango cultivation. We are also giving financial help to revive old mango orchards. Not a single government helped them before. We have provided deep irrigation for mango growers. We will provide five more cold chambers for mango growers. We want to benefit farmers and double their income,” said the Agriculture Minister.
The Minister informed that around 259 farmers are making Gonda Twisa famous through mango cultivation.
“I urge everyone to visit Dumboor. Here, the total land is around 40, and homestay facilities are also available. The main aim of our government is to provide employment in every household and make Tripura self-reliant. India is now producing milk, spices, rice, chilli, jute, banana, and mangoes in large quantities and is among the highest producers in the world. This has been possible due to PM Narendra Modi. I have been in the Assembly for 33 years; the condition of Gandatwisa earlier was very bad, and people were unable to come here due to insurgency. Now, in the last 8 years, the situation has changed, and this is the result of the double-engine government. You people should focus on mangoes, pineapple, ginger, bird’s eye chilli, banana, etc., and do not leave any land empty. We have different kinds of mangoes. I want to thank these farmers for cultivating various types of mangoes. We could have done this event in Agartala, but we are doing it in Gandatwisa as our government wants development for the last person in society,” he said.
The Minister informed that in Tripura, around 58,000 hectares of land are used for fruit cultivation, and among these, 10,000 hectares are used for mangoes.
“In Tripura, 5 metric tonnes of mangoes are produced per hectare of land, and in Gonda Twisa it is 9 MT. We will further develop Gonda Twisa Sub-division and Dumboor,” he added.
