Agartala, 8th March 2024: Politburo member Manik Sarkar extended an invitation to political parties aligned with democratic values and secular principles to join the Left Front’s fight against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Sarkar highlighted the deteriorating situation under the current government, describing its performance as not only subpar but also regressive. He lamented the lack of rule of law, citing a surge in attacks on women and a concerning trend where law enforcement discourages victims from seeking justice. Additionally, he expressed concern over the rising number of unexplained deaths on the streets, often hastily labeled as accidents or suicides by authorities.
Furthermore, Sarkar criticized the alleged preferential treatment given to members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at the expense of local youth, leading to unemployment and disillusionment among the populace. He underscored the need for a united front against such injustices, emphasizing the Left Front’s alliance with 26 other political parties in preparation for the elections.
Addressing the issue of unemployment, Sarkar warned of the escalating risk of substance abuse among the youth due to lack of opportunities. He condemned attempts to stifle opposition voices in the Assembly, expressing confidence in the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPIM] gaining recognition as an opposition party with Jitendra Chowdhury slated to assume the role of opposition leader.
Moreover, Sarkar vehemently denounced the tripartite agreement between the BJP government and Tipra Motha, labeling it as divisive and baseless. He accused the government of orchestrating the agreement to sow discord among tribes and sub-tribes, aiming to undermine the Left Front’s influence.
In light of these challenges, Sarkar urged for solidarity among progressive forces to counter the BJP’s agenda and uphold democratic values in the state.
