Lightning strike kills one, three injured in Unakoti

Agartala, 30th May 2024:  One woman died while three others were injured after a lightning strike during in two separate locations under Kailashahar sub-division of Unakoti District.

According to sources, the injured are currently undergoing treatment at Unakoti District Hospital.

The first incident took place in Golakpur village, and the second incident occurred in the Manu Valley village panchayat area under the Kailashahar sub-division of Unakoti District.

In the first lightning incident, which occurred around 7:30 am in the Manu Valley Gram Panchayat area, a person identified as Sanjay Bauri (22) was working in the Manu Valley tea garden when he suddenly lost consciousness due to a lightning strike and fell to the ground.

Other plantation workers in the vicinity immediately brought him to Unakoti District Hospital for treatment. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, Sanjay Bauri was admitted to the hospital by the doctor on duty.

In another incident, three women working in a Jum field in the morning were struck by lightning.

As a result, the three women lost consciousness and fell to the ground.

“Forty-seven-year-old member Chong Halam died on the spot, while Nirchonghai Halam and Lelpuini Halam were seriously injured. About two hours after the lightning strike, the three women were brought to Unakoti District Hospital for treatment, and the doctor on duty admitted two of the women to the hospital,” said a source.
