Liquor bottles in classrooms, Matinagar School in crisis

Agartala, 6th July 2024:   Matinagar Higher Secondary School once a respected institution under the Kamalasagar Assembly Constituency but now it has become embroiled in a scandal after locals raised concerns about the alleged presence of drugs and overall neglect by the school administration.

The disturbing situation came to light this morning when students saw a large number of liquor bottles including various brands of beer and foreign liquor scattered around the school premises even inside classrooms. Following this recovery residents gather at the school and witness the scene firsthand.

The sight that greeted them was deeply concerning.  A frustrated teacher spoke out about the deplorable conditions stating that the environment was no longer conducive to teaching. He expressed regret for joining the school claiming he would not have done so if he had been aware of the situation beforehand.

The anger of the residents extended beyond the immediate recovery of drugs. They hold the school management committee accountable for failing to fulfill its basic responsibilities towards the school’s development.  The once-respected reputation of the school is now at stake, they lamented.

Furthermore, the school’s infrastructure appears to be crumbling.  Residents allege that classrooms, drinking water facilities and electricity supply are all in a state of disrepair.  Perhaps most concerning is the presence of overflowing garbage creating an unhygienic learning environment for the students.

Adding another layer to the unfolding scandal some residents allege that members of the school management committee are colluding with a teacher to sell off school property. This accusation has further fueled the outrage within the local residents.

In response to these alarming developments residents have made a direct appeal to the state’s education minister. They demand immediate intervention to address the issues plaguing Matinagar Higher Secondary School.  The question of how students can receive a proper education in an environment allegedly riddled with drug use hangs heavy in the air. The future of the school and the well-being of its students are both in question.
