Locals bear brunt of alleged negligence by ration dealer at Purba Lakshmibil

Agartala, 24th June 2025:   ‘ Residents of Purba Lakshmibil under the Lakshmibil Gram Panchayat in Bishalgarh subdivision continue to face mounting frustration due to erratic operations at the local government fair price shop.

Despite the official opening hour of 7 am, locals allege that the shop managed by dealer Baby Debnath and her husband, Sudhangshu Debnath rarely begins distribution before 8 am. Today, consumers reportedly waited for hours with no sign of either the dealer or distribution activity. When contacted, the dealer cited the absence of the measuring staff due to illness as the reason for the delay.

The explanation, however has not sat well with many. “We are tired of these excuses—first it’s the dealer’s health, then the staff’s. But we are the ones who suffer each time,” said a local consumer, visibly agitated after the prolonged wait.

Residents claim such delays and disruptions have become a recurring issue, with grievances intensifying in recent years. Some allege that since Sudhangshu Debnath’s switch in political allegiance from the Left to the BJP, the duo has grown increasingly indifferent to public inconvenience. Many accuse the couple of using flimsy justifications to delay or suspend ration distribution altogether.
