Agartala, 30th November 2023: In a compelling display of frustration, residents of Mungiakami Bazar in the Teliamura sub-division took to the streets today, blocking the Assam-Agartala National Highway to demand a solution to their longstanding drinking water crisis.
Local sources report that the residents have been grappling with inadequate drinking water facilities for an extended period, leading to immense hardships. Despite multiple appeals to higher authorities, including the Commission, no tangible steps were taken to address their grievances.
The situation escalated this morning as the aggrieved residents orchestrated a road blockade, bringing traffic on the vital Assam-Agartala National Highway to a grinding halt. The protest aimed to draw attention to the dire need for a reliable drinking water supply in the Mungiakami market area.
Prompted by the severity of the situation, high-ranking officers from the Commission swiftly responded to the crisis. Upon reaching the site of the blockade, they engaged in a dialogue with the protestors, acknowledging their concerns. In an attempt to appease the residents, the officials assured them that immediate measures would be taken to resolve the longstanding drinking water issue.
Assured by the commitment of the officials, the protestors, in a gesture of goodwill, decided to withdraw the road blockade. The high-ranking officers pledged to expedite efforts to address the water scarcity problem in the Mungiakami Bazar area.
