Agartala: August 02. In an escalating protest, the residents of Betaga Saha Para in Shantirbazar subdivision have voiced their frustration over a prolonged electricity crisis that has left them without power for three consecutive days.
Approximately 45 families are enduring this dire situation, with some facing these electricity problems for two to three years.
Despite several attempts to inform the staff of TSECL, the power distribution company responsible for the area, no actions have been taken to address the ongoing issue. In a show of exasperation, the local residents surrounded the office of Betaga Power Department, seeking answers and solutions to their plight.
The lack of electricity has not only plunged the area into darkness but has also caused a severe shortage of drinking water. Cooking and bathing have become challenging tasks, as the water supply relies on an operational power grid.
Efforts to communicate with the corporation’s employees have proven futile, with phone calls going unanswered since Wednesday morning. The protesting women, who expressed their anger to the media, have accused the corporation of neglecting their repeated complaints. Even reaching out to local public representatives and the panchayat has yielded no relief for the suffering residents.
Adding to their grievances, the residents emphasized that they diligently settle their electricity bills every month, making the situation even more frustrating as they feel their responsibility is not reciprocated by the electricity department.
The residents have threatened to escalate their protest further and engage in a larger movement if their demands are not met promptly. They insist on an immediate and comprehensive resolution to the persistent electricity crisis plaguing their neighborhood.
