Agartala, 2nd October 2024: A notorious fraudster from Machmara area named Uttam Chakma has been arrested by the Dharmanagar police following multiple allegations of deceit. Chakma, who has been impersonating personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF) and Tripura State Rifles (TSR), was handed over to the police by vigilant locals on Tuesday night.
Chakma’s fraudulent activities came to light after a series of complaints were lodged against him at the Dharmanagar police station. On September 27, he allegedly stole a woman’s mobile phone under the pretext of needing to make a call. Additionally, five months ago, he duped two restaurant owners, Mithun Bhattacharya and Bimal Nath, by ordering chicken biryani and absconding with Rs 640.
The police investigation revealed that Chakma, who often donned uniforms to mislead people, is not affiliated with any paramilitary forces. His arrest comes just before the festive season, bringing relief to the community that had been plagued by his deceptive schemes.
