Agartala, 25th April 2025: Trouble continues to follow Samarjit Chowdhury, a resident of Khamarhati under Madhupur police station as he once again finds himself in police custody. Previously arrested for consuming alcohol and later imprisoned for the brutal killing of his wife and mother-in-law in broad daylight, Chowdhury was recently granted bail. However, his return home was short-lived.
Acting on confidential information, Madhupur police station OC Debajit Chatterjee led a raid on Chowdhury’s residence this afternoon. The TSR unit found 23.7 kilograms of dried marijuana stored inside a drum in an abandoned house on the property.
“We had received a tip-off about a significant quantity of marijuana being kept in the house. During the search, we found the stash and immediately took action,” said OC Chatterjee.
The confiscated drugs valued at over Rs 1 lakh were transported to Madhupur police station. Despite his previous criminal record, police confirm that no prior NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) case had been lodged against him.
“After securing bail for the murder case, Chowdhury resumed his illegal activities. Now, with this fresh NDPS case, he is likely to spend the rest of his life behind bars,” Chatterjee added.
Authorities are now preparing additional legal proceedings against Chowdhury, ensuring he remains in police custody as investigations continue.
