Major Police success in North Tripura: 9 stolen bikes recovered, notorious thief arrested

Date:

Agartala, 30th April 2026:  Police in North Tripura district achieved a major breakthrough in curbing thefts, recovering nine stolen motorbikes and arresting a notorious thief during a special operation.

Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai confirmed that the accused, identified as Ram Debnath, was apprehended and is currently being interrogated. Authorities suspect that several others may be linked to the bike theft racket.

The arrests come after a spate of thefts in Dharmanagar and adjoining areas, which had left residents alarmed. Complaints of stolen bikes, shop burglaries, and even theft of construction materials from the newly built building of Sadhak Ratanmani Seva Sadan in Sonarbasha Banbari had been piling up at Dharmanagar police station.

Acting on these reports, the district police formed a special team under the SP’s directive. The operation led to the recovery of around two tons of stolen iron rods, a drill machine, cutter machine, and other equipment.

In the past week, police have arrested seven accused in connection with various thefts. Among them, Ram Debnath was held for bike thefts, leading to the recovery of nine motorcycles from Anandabazar and other areas. In separate cases, Sulaj Mia, Rahul Uddin, Gayaz Uddin, and Abdul Kalam were arrested for rod theft, while Komfu Shukla Das and Sanjay Das were detained for shop burglaries.

Police stated that all accused have been produced before court. Ram Debnath, arrested last night, was presented in court today in connection with the bike theft case.

The series of successful raids has brought some relief to Dharmanagar residents, though locals have urged authorities to further strengthen vigilance to prevent future thefts.
