Agartala, 30th April 2026: The busy Gokulnagar Rashtarmatha crossing in Bishalgarh subdivision has turned into a nightmare for commuters, with the absence of permanent traffic management posing daily risks to schoolchildren, tourists, and local residents.
Despite being one of the most important junctions in the region — the main gateway to the famous Kasba Kali Temple at Kamalasagar, a prime tourist destination — the crossing has no regular traffic police presence. Heavy ONGC containers and large trucks also use this route, adding to the congestion and danger.
The situation is particularly alarming for students, as a primary school is located right beside the intersection. Parents fear for their children’s safety as speeding vehicles pass recklessly without traffic control. “We send our kids to school with our hearts in our mouths. Vehicles come from all directions without warning,” a local parent said.
Residents allege that traffic police appear only during VIP movements, leaving the junction unattended at all other times. This selective enforcement has fueled public anger and eroded trust in the administration.
Accidents have become frequent in the area, with local youths often stepping in to manage traffic during peak chaos. Civic groups and traders have long demanded a permanent traffic post and round-the-clock deployment of personnel, especially during school hours.
Locals warn that unless authorities act swiftly, a major tragedy could occur. Their demand is clear: “We want safe roads, we want a guarantee of life.”
