Man Convicted Under POCSO Act in Agartala, Sentenced to 20 Years Rigorous Imprisonment

Agartala, 8th July 2026: The Court of the Learned Additional District & Sessions Judge, Agartala, West Tripura District, has convicted Gopal Ghosh (55), a resident of Ananganagar, Hathat Colony, Baishya Para under Airport Police Station, and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for committing an offence under Section 4(2) of the POCSO Act.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 on the convict. In case of failure to pay the fine, he will have to undergo an additional three months of rigorous imprisonment. The case was registered as SPL (POCSO) 07/2024, arising out of Airport PS Case No. 07/2024 under Section 376(1) of the IPC.

According to the prosecution, the incident took place on January 25, 2024, at around 12:30 pm, when the accused allegedly called the victim to his house, closed the door, and forcefully touched and rubbed her private parts with an improper intention.

Following a detailed investigation, Sub-Inspector Rahul Das of Airport Police Station, who is presently posted at New Capital Complex Police Station under West District, submitted the chargesheet against the accused on February 29, 2024.

After examining the evidence and proceedings of the case, the trial court found Gopal Ghosh guilty and convicted him under the relevant provisions of law, awarding the sentence accordingly.
