Agartala, Nov 28: A 60-year-old man was killed after he intervened in a heated argument between two youths over auto driving at Agriculture Chowmuhani area on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Rajab Ali, a resident of Gokulpur area of Udaipur.
According to sources, the incident occurred around 5 pm when Akhtar Hossain, an auto driver from Gokulpur, had a dispute with Kalu Saha, another auto driver from Agriculture Chowmuhani, over the right of way. The situation soon turned violent as Kalu and his friend Balai Das attacked Akhtar with fists and kicks. Rajab Ali, who was Akhtar’s uncle, rushed to the spot after hearing about the scuffle and tried to pacify the warring parties. However, he was pushed to the ground by Kalu and brutally assaulted by him and his associates. They allegedly kicked him in his private parts, causing him to collapse on the spot.
Local people shifted Rajab Ali to Gomati District Hospital, where he was declared brought dead by the doctors. Eyewitnesses said that Rajab Ali died instantly after being kicked by Kalu. The police have registered a case of murder against Kalu, Balai and others and launched a manhunt to nab them. They are said to have fled the scene after learning about Rajab Ali’s death.
The incident has sparked outrage and grief among the residents of the area, who demanded strict action against the culprits. They said that Rajab Ali was a peace-loving and helpful person, who lost his life while trying to stop a trivial quarrel. They also appealed to the authorities to ensure the safety of the auto drivers, who often face harassment and violence from their rivals.
