Agartala, 26th May 2024:  A brazen incident of fraud unfolded in Bisramganja market on Sunday morning, leaving a local shop owner significantly out of pocket.

According to reports, a man dressed in khaki clothes, impersonating a policeman, visited Arun Saha’s grocery store in Bisramganja Bazar. The impostor ordered goods worth 52,000 rupees, which Arun Saha diligently packed.

After placing his order, the fraudster proceeded to other shops within the market. He visited a vegetable shop, a fish shop, and a meat shop, ordering 30 kg of fish, meat, and various vegetables. While the butcher was busy cutting the meat, the man returned to Arun Saha’s shop and arranged for the goods worth 52,000 rupees to be loaded into an auto-rickshaw.

The conman then convinced Arun Saha to give him 10,000 rupees in cash, under the pretext that he needed to purchase the fish and meat, promising to return and settle the full amount. Trusting the man’s police disguise, Arun Saha handed over the cash. The fraudster took the money and immediately fled the market, never to return.

A businessman from the nearby  market alerted others about the scam, but the culprit had already vanished. Authorities have been notified, and an investigation is underway to apprehend the individual responsible for this deceitful act.
