Agartala, 30th May 2025: A fierce blaze swept through the Maharajganj Bazaar in the heart of Agartala city late last night reducing six vegetable shops to ashes and leaving traders in despair.
The fire broke out during the dead of night, causing extensive damage to the busy marketplace. The loss of goods and infrastructure has dealt a heavy blow to local vendors, many of whom depend solely on their small businesses for livelihood.
In the aftermath of the incident, Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Deputy Mayor Manika Das Datta, accompanied by local councilor Ratna Datta visited the scene this morning to assess the extent of the damage. They met with the affected shopkeepers, listened to their concerns, and assured them of prompt governmental support.
“We have interacted with the shop owners and assured them of necessary assistance. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, but I urge all shopkeepers to ensure they have proper insurance coverage to safeguard against such unexpected disasters,” said Deputy Mayor Manika Das Datta while speaking to the media personnel here.
Meanwhile, authorities have launched an investigation to determine the origin of the fire. Relief measures are being coordinated by the AMC to support those affected, offering some reassurance to traders as they prepare to rebuild their shattered livelihoods.
