Agartala, November 12: Ramakrishna Club, a cultural organization in GB Bazar of the capital, celebrated Shyama Puja on Sunday with a vow to worship Goddess Shyama, also known as Kali. The club also organized a blood donation camp on the occasion, which was inaugurated by Mayor Deepak Majumder.
Mayor Majumder praised the club for upholding the culture and traditions of the state by organizing such a puja. He said that the state is peaceful and everyone is enjoying the festival. He urged the people to maintain the joy and enthusiasm in the coming days. He also wished everyone a happy Diwali.
The blood donation camp was attended by local councillors, club presidents, editors and other dignitaries. The club members and devotees donated blood for a noble cause. The club also distributed prasad and sweets among the participants.
The worship of Shyama Maa, or Goddess Kali, is a popular Hindu festival in Tripura and other parts of India. It is celebrated on the new moon day of the Hindu month of Kartik, which coincides with Diwali. Shyama Maa is considered as the destroyer of evil and the protector of her devotees.
