Mayor inspects Howrah River Development Project work

Agartala: May 03. Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, Dipak Majumder today inspected the ongoing work of Howrah River Development Project under the Smart City Project.

The Howrah River Development Project, part of the Smart City Project, is underway to beautify the city of Agartala. Through this project, the work of constructing and decorating the Howrah river embankment has started. About Rs 101 crore rupees will be spent on this work.

On Wednesday, Mayor Majumdar visited the area adjacent to the office of the Battala Forest Department to inspect the construction of the river dam.

The mayor talked to the staff in charge of the project. Later, the mayor spoke to the media in detail. He said that the main objectives of the Howrah River Development Project included in the Agartala Smart City project are to secure the river bank, provide cycling, and build an amusement park.

“Within the next one and a half years, an initiative has been taken to decorate the 1.2 km area along the banks of Howrah river from hanging bridge to Dasmighat. Besides, the road is being built under this projector under the dam”, he said.

Mayor said that once the construction of the road embankment on the side of the river is completed, vehicles will not be able to move. The mayor also said that once the work of this project is completed, the entire area will become one of the tourist centers in Agartala city. People can come to the area to spend time. And there will no longer be any system of dumping waste in the river as before.

This work is being done quickly to enhance the beauty. However, there will be problems for some families along the river in the area. The mayor said that the initiative will be taken to remove them from the slums through discussion. Corporation Commissioner Shailesh Kumar Yadav and other officials accompanied the mayor during the visit.
