Agartala, 30th March 2025 :   A shocking case of mob justice unfolded in the Kalachhara area of Sabroom when an intoxicated youth who was reportedly mentally ill attacked pedestrians with a machete, leading to the tragic deaths of both the attacker and one of his victims. The incident has sparked tension in the locality.

According to eyewitnesses, a youth named Ashish Debnath, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, suddenly attacked a pedestrian, Ramakrishna Das, with a machete. Though Ramakrishna managed to escape, another bystander, Debapriya Bhattacharya, attempted to intervene but became the target of Ashish’s wrath. Tragically, Debapriya succumbed to the brutal assault on the spot.

Upon receiving reports of the attack, police rushed to the scene. However, by that time, an enraged mob had already apprehended Ashish Debnath and subjected him to severe beating. Despite police presence, the situation spiraled out of control, resulting in the death of the accused due to the brutal mob lynching.

Ramakrishna Das, who sustained injuries in the attack, is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital. Meanwhile, authorities have recovered both bodies and sent them for autopsy. An investigation into the incident has been launched to identify those responsible for taking the law into their own hands.
