MGNREGA workers demand 200 days work, Rs 600 daily wage

Agartala, 15th May 2026:  In support of the nationwide strike called by the All India Agricultural Workers’ Union, the local committee of the All India Kisan Sabha organized a protest on the Nalchar–Agartala–Sonamura road today.

The demonstration was addressed by Radhaballabh Debnath, Central Committee member of the Agricultural Workers’ Union and President of the Tripura Agricultural Workers’ Union State Committee. Also present were CPI(M) Sonamura Sub-Divisional Committee members Tapan Das, Pranab Debnath, Bikash Das, Aparna Debnath, along with Agricultural Workers’ Union regional leaders Nikhil Debnath (Secretary) and Sajal Das (President), among others.

A large gathering of people joined the protest, voicing strong support for the union’s demands. The key demands raised were: The repeal of new farm laws introduced by the central BJP government; Guarantee of 200 days of work annually for MGNREGA workers; Increase in daily wages to Rs 600; and Implementation of MGNREGA throughout the year without interruption.
