Agartala, 30th April 2025: In a proactive move ahead of the monsoon season, MLA & Assembly’s Chief Whip Kalyani Saha Roy of Ward No. 3 under Teliamura Municipal Council conducted an on-site inspection of the government’s initiatives to prevent the erosion of the Khowai River. The inspection took place in the riverbank areas of Ward No. 3, a region that has historically faced severe challenges due to flooding and erosion during the monsoon.
Every year, the rising water levels of the Khowai River during the monsoon season lead to flooding and the collapse of riverbanks, causing significant damage to the lives and livelihoods of residents along the river. To address this recurring issue, the government has been implementing various erosion prevention measures annually.
During her visit, MLA Kalyani Saha Roy was accompanied by engineers from the Water Resources Department. Speaking to the media, she expressed her gratitude to the state government and the Chief Minister for prioritizing the resolution of river erosion problems. “We are grateful to the state government and the Chief Minister for taking up the task of solving so many river erosion problems. Tenders have been issued, and work is underway,” she stated.
The MLA also assured residents that comprehensive measures, including the construction of drains, parasiting, placement of boulders, and other erosion prevention works, would be completed before the onset of the monsoon. “All necessary works will be done in this area before the monsoon season,” she affirmed.
In addition, MLA Kalyani Saha Roy announced plans for a joint inspection involving the Public Works Department, Water Resources Department, and the Municipal Council. “A joint inspection will be held tomorrow to ensure that all departments are aligned in their efforts to protect the riverbanks and the communities living nearby,” she added.
The inspection underscores the government’s commitment to mitigating the impact of natural disasters and safeguarding the well-being of its citizens. Residents of the area have expressed hope that these measures will bring much-needed relief and prevent the devastating effects of river erosion this monsoon season.
