Agartala, 14th July 2026: After long-standing complaints of irregularities at the North Tripura District Hospital in Dharmanagar, local MLA Jahar Chakraborty made his first surprise visit to the facility on Tuesday afternoon.
During the inspection, the MLA expressed dissatisfaction over the hospital’s cleanliness and certain services. While touring various wards and the premises, he noticed several dustbins overflowing with garbage. He immediately summoned the sanitation supervisor to explain the situation, but remained unconvinced by the reasons provided.
Further inspection of the hospital’s rear section revealed that patients’ bed sheets, covers, and other linens were being washed within the hospital compound itself. Chakraborty questioned Medical Superintendent Dr. Bhaskar Bhattacharya on whether such practices were permissible. According to the MLA, the response was unsatisfactory. He stressed that the contracted agency responsible for laundry services should clean hospital linens at designated facilities, not within the premises, as such practices violate hygiene norms.
Concluding his visit, Chakraborty stated: “I have become an MLA with the blessings of the people. Safeguarding public interest and ensuring the quality of government services is my duty. I will continue to uphold this responsibility. Irregularities, negligence, or injustice will not be tolerated. Authorities must take immediate corrective measures.”
The sudden inspection has drawn public attention, with residents now keenly observing what steps the administration will take to improve hospital cleanliness and service standards.
