Agartala, 6th November 2025:  In a bid to promote the ARC (Advanced Research Cultivation) method of potato farming across Tripura, the State Horticulture and Garden Crop Research Centre in Nagicherra, Agartala, has intensified its outreach efforts. As part of this initiative, a day-long workshop on ARC-based potato cultivation was held on Thursday in Amarpur, Gomati district, drawing participation from around 60 local farmers.

Organized by the Amarpur Agricultural Subdivision, the workshop aimed to familiarize farmers with the benefits and techniques of the ARC method. Among the attendees were Amarpur MLA Ranjit Das, Amarpur Municipal Council Chairman Bikash Saha, and Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Suchitra Das.

Key experts present included Dr. Rajib Ghosh, Head of the State Horticulture and Garden Crop Research Centre; Orin Majumdar, Nodal Officer of ARC; Assistant Director Abinash Das; and Agricultural Supervisor Shamit Bhattacharjee, along with other officials from the agriculture department.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ghosh explained the advantages of transitioning from traditional potato farming to the ARC method. He highlighted that the ARC technique can yield two to three times more produce, significantly boosting farmers’ income. The seeds used in this method are highly disease-resistant, ensuring better crop health and minimizing losses.

Orin Majumdar conducted a detailed PowerPoint presentation, using visuals to explain various aspects of potato farming under the ARC model—including seed selection, soil preparation, irrigation, and fertilizer application.

Farmers actively engaged with the experts, asking questions and seeking guidance on implementing the new method. The workshop was held at the conference hall of the Amarpur Agricultural Subdivision office.

Concluding the event, MLA Ranjit Das endorsed the ARC method as timely and beneficial for potato cultivation. He announced that Amarpur would see its first ARC-based potato farming this year and expressed optimism about its success. Das, who is also a farmer, shared his personal interest in adopting the ARC method on his own land.
