Agartala, 28th August 2025: A month-long training workshop on tribal handicraft design and traditional weaving was inaugurated in Bishalgarh subdivision, aiming to empower 20 tribal women through skill development and cultural preservation.
The workshop is being held at the second-floor premises of the RD Department in Charilam, with support from the Tribal Research and Cultural Institute. The initiative was formally launched by Supriya Das Dutta, Chairperson of the Sepahijala Zilla Parishad, who lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the beginning of the program.
The event was graced by Seema Bhowmik, Member of the Sepahijala Zilla Parishad; Jakulo Debbarma, Chairman of the Charilam Block BAC; Rammohan Debbarma, Vice Chairman; and Uggajai Mog, Officer from the Bishalgarh Subdivision Tribal Welfare Department, along with other officials and community representatives.
The training includes 20 participants and three expert trainers, focusing on enhancing aesthetic sensibilities and craftsmanship in traditional tribal weaving. During her visit, Chairperson Supriya Das Dutta also observed demonstrations on the making of risa and pasra, traditional tribal garments.
While addressing the gathering, Das Dutta emphasized the importance of preserving indigenous art forms and equipping women with skills that foster both cultural pride and economic independence.
