The “Mothers-in-law and Daughters-in-law Conference” was organized under the Kamdebchhara Ayushman Arogya Mandir at Birchandranagar Anganwadi Kendra and the South Dhanchhara Ayushman Arogya Mandir at Purvajoypara Anganwadi Kendra, both under the Machmara Primary Health Centre.

The event sought to foster dialogue and understanding between two generations of women mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law highlighting the importance of family planning in ensuring healthier families and communities.

A total of 83 participants, including mothers-in-law, daughters-in-law, and other local women, actively joined the program. Community Health Officers K. Lalthafeli and Solomon Reang, ANMs Shikha Chakma and Anita Chakma, Anganwadi worker Amika Chakma, along with local ASHA workers, were present at the gathering.

Health workers discussed the necessity of family planning, the benefits of maintaining appropriate spacing between children, and the use of modern contraceptive methods such as injections, pills, and Copper-T. Participants were informed about the safety and effectiveness of these methods.

Speaking at the conference, Community Health Officers K. Lalthafeli and Solomon Reang emphasized: “In family decision-making—especially regarding childbirth—the opinions of both mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law are vital. Such discussions help dispel misconceptions and encourage families to make healthier choices.”

ANMs Shikha Chakma and Anita Chakma added that accurate knowledge of family planning methods empowers women to make informed decisions about their bodies, families, and futures.

Several participants shared personal experiences and raised concerns, creating an open and positive environment for dialogue. According to local health workers, the initiative is expected to increase acceptance of family planning in the area while strengthening maternal and child health.

They further noted that such conferences will play a crucial role in building mutual understanding and stronger relationships between generations of women in society.
