Agartala, January 17: A group of unemployed youths who have completed the Multi-Purpose Worker (MPW) course met the director of the health department on Wednesday to demand immediate recruitment. They claimed that the state government has not filled any MPW post for the last six years, despite issuing a notification for 791 vacancies in 2017.
The youths said that there are about 1200 MPW unemployed in the state, and they want the government to employ at least 500 of them. They alleged that they have been ignored by the health department, even after holding several deputations, processions and meetings in the past.
They warned that if their demands are not met soon, they will join a larger movement in the coming days. They said that MPWs are essential for providing basic health services to the rural population, and the government should not neglect them.
