Agartala, July 18, 2023: The Tripura Regional Office of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) celebrated the 42nd Foundation Day of NABARD on Tuesday. NABARD was established on July 12, 1982 as the apex financial institution to facilitate growth of agriculture and rural development by promoting flow of credit and through other supportive initiatives.
Among the galaxy of distinguished guest who graced the program were MLA Jitendra Majumder; CEO of TRLM Prasada Rao Vaddarapu; GM/OIC of NABARD Tripura Regional Office Loken Das; DGM of NABARD Diganta Das; Principal of the College of Agriculture Prof. T. K. Maity; Chairman of the TSCB Kamal Kanti Sen; Chairman of TGB Satyendra Singh; and Deputy Dean of the College of Fisheries Prof. Arunbhai Patel.
The programme began with Diganta Das, DGM NABARD welcoming the dignitaries and participants.
In his address, Loken Das, GM/OIC addressed the participants and discussed about the initiatives of NABARD and the specific interventions in Tripura for fostering rural prosperity. During 2022-23 NABARD sanctioned projects worth Rs.496 crore to the Government of Tripura for development of rural infrastructure and disbursed a total amount of Rs.500 crores towards initiation of new projects and completion of old projects. The banks were provided refinance of Rs.525 crore to facilitate credit flow to agriculture and rural sector during the year 2022-23.
He also informed about development initiatives such as promotion of kharif onion and baby corn cultivation, sanction of an Off Farm Producer Organisation, initiation of a Tribal Development Project, initiatives towards development of handlooms and handicrafts of Tripura, etc.
During the programme, sanction letters on various projects were handed over to few SHGs/NGOs. Best performing branches of TGB & TSCB were provided with token of appreciation. Besides the programme, an exhibition of handloom & handicraft products were also organized by various SHG groups of Tripura.
