Agartala, 26th September 2026 : NABARD is planning to launch an integrated area-based development project under its Tribal Development Fund to promote economic self-reliance among tribal and small farmers in the underdeveloped areas of South Tripura, NABARD General Manager and Officer-in-Charge of its Tripura Regional Office, Tanushree Bhattacharya, said during her visit to Daulbari in Sabroom subdivision.
Bhattacharya visited the area to inspect field-level activities and assess the progress of the Feni Farmers’ Producer Company (FPC), established under the guidance of Bagma Agri Producer Company Limited. She also held discussions with farmers and representatives of the producer company on measures to improve agricultural productivity and household incomes.
Speaking at a meeting following the inspection, Bhattacharya said NABARD was promoting Farmer Producer Companies across the country to bring small and marginal farmers under a common platform, ensure better prices for their produce, facilitate access to modern technology and provide necessary training.
She said that of the eight FPCs currently operating in Tripura, the Feni FPC in Sabroom has been functioning effectively. Farmers associated with the organisation are engaged in fish farming and animal husbandry besides cultivating kidney beans (rajma), black gram (mashkalai) and mustard. Some of the agricultural produce is being marketed outside Tripura, including in Chhattisgarh.
Bhattacharya said the proposed Tribal Development Fund project would focus on making tribal farmers economically self-reliant through integrated livelihood activities. Special emphasis would be given to advanced fish farming, breeding and local production of fish feed.
She added that positive discussions had already been held with the Departments of Agriculture and Animal Resources Development, Tripura Gramin Bank and the College of Fisheries regarding the implementation of the proposed project.
Biswajit Majumdar, a key organiser of Feni Agro Producer Company Limited, Board of Directors member Rajen Das, CEO Pranjit Bhowmik and local agricultural representatives were present at the meeting. They welcomed the NABARD initiative and expressed their willingness to work jointly towards increasing farmers’ income and strengthening local livelihoods.
