Agartala, 17th April 2026: A high-level review meeting chaired by Narcotics Control Bureau Director General Anurag Garg in Agartala focused on strengthening Tripura’s anti-drug enforcement through better coordination, intelligence integration, and technology-led operations.
The DG stressed that enforcement agencies must move beyond routine arrests and instead focus on breaking the wider drug trafficking ecosystem. He underlined the importance of identifying and neutralising organized networks responsible for the illegal drug trade, particularly those linked to cannabis cultivation in the region.
Garg called for a sharper focus on top-level traffickers, stating that sustained legal action against key figures in the supply chain is essential to weaken trafficking networks. He also suggested stricter application of the PITNDPS Act to deal with repeat offenders and habitual traffickers.
Highlighting the role of advanced data systems, he encouraged the use of NATGRID to support in-depth investigations, including tracing financial flows associated with narcotics operations. According to him, targeting the economic structure of these networks is critical to long-term disruption.
The review also emphasized strengthening the operational capacity of Tripura’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), enabling it to take a more proactive leadership role in enforcement. Officials were further advised to make coordination mechanisms such as NCORD and State-level Joint Coordination Committee meetings more effective and outcome-oriented.
