Agartala, 27th July 2026 : National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar will arrive in Tripura on July 28 for a two-day visit aimed at strengthening initiatives related to women’s empowerment and child welfare. The visit will include participation in a series of awareness programmes organised by the state government and the Tripura Women’s Commission.
Tripura Women’s Commission Chairperson Jharna Debbarma said Rahatkar’s visit reflects the NCW’s commitment to supporting efforts for the protection and welfare of women and children. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a fitness programme, Debbarma said the NCW chief will attend an awareness programme on child marriage and its harmful social impact at Rajarshi Hall in Udaipur on July 29. She will also participate in a programme on preventing stalking at a hotel in Agartala on July 30.
Debbarma highlighted the state government’s ongoing campaign against child marriage through awareness drives and welfare initiatives. She said the Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibah Yojana provides ₹50,000 to daughters of Antyodaya families after they attain the legal marriage age of 18 years. Under the Mukhyamantri Balika Samriddhi Yojana, a fixed deposit of ₹50,000 is created for girl children from Antyodaya families, which can be utilized after they turn 18 for higher education or marriage. She added that special administrative camps are also being organised across the state to ensure greater public awareness and wider access to these welfare schemes.
