Agartala, 5th April 2026: . Severe public anger has erupted across Bamutia RD Block over the dilapidated condition of the crematorium adjacent to the area.
Built in 2021, the facility has reportedly been left neglected due to years of poor maintenance. Local residents complain that no renovation or improvement work has been undertaken since its construction, leaving the infrastructure to crumble. Broken sheds, unhygienic surroundings, and lack of basic amenities have caused immense hardship for grieving families.
The crematorium serves as the only facility for people from Tufania Lunga, Lakshi Lunga, Rangutia, and Berimura villages. Every day, many families come here to perform last rites, but the absence of a proper environment during such sensitive moments has deepened their distress.
Residents point out that while initiatives for crematorium construction and upgrades were announced across the state ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections, Bamutia’s facility was excluded from those development efforts. A separate plan to build another crematorium in the nearby area under the initiative of the former Panchayat Samiti chairperson has also failed to materialize.
Despite repeated appeals to elected representatives, the Panchayat, and block administration, no effective steps have been taken so far. Frustration and disappointment among locals continue to grow.
The community has now raised a strong demand: immediate renovation and modernization of the crematorium so that families can bid farewell to their loved ones with dignity and respect.
