Negligence allegations surface again against DWS department in Dhalai’s Manu Division

Agartala, 28th October 2025:  Allegations of gross negligence have once again surfaced against the Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) Department’s Manu division, as residents of Goynama village in Longtharai Valley subdivision raise concerns over a long-delayed water supply project.

In 2021, the DWS department reportedly installed a water pump in Goynama under the Jal Jeevan Mission, aiming to provide clean drinking water to every household. Despite the investment of several lakhs of rupees, the pump remains non-operational nearly four years later, leaving the community’s longstanding water crisis unresolved.

Local residents, who had welcomed the installation with hope, now express deep frustration. “We believed our water woes would finally end, but the pump has never been switched on. The department’s officials have shown complete disregard for our repeated appeals,” said one villager, speaking to the media personnel today.

Community members allege that the delay stems from administrative apathy and mismanagement within the DWS department. They claim to have approached officials multiple times, urging them to activate the pump and alleviate the village’s water scarcity, but their pleas have gone unheard.

Facing persistent neglect, villagers have now turned to the media to amplify their concerns and appeal directly to the state government. They demand immediate action to operationalize the pump and ensure access to safe drinking water in the region.
