Nesha Mukt Tripura: Police registers 245 NDPS cases and arrests 373 persons

Agartala, June 26, 2023: Under “Nasha Mukt Tripura” campaign, Tripura Police is making all out efforts to eradicate the problem of drug menace from the state.

During 2023, a total of 245 cases under NDPS Act have been registered, and more than 373 accused persons have been arrested so far (till May 2023). During the period, narcotic items worth more than Rs. 70 crore have been seized Narcotic items worth more than Rs. 12.5 crore have been destroyed till May 2023.

In 2022, a total of 562 cases were registered, and around 760 accused persons had been arrested. During the period, narcotics items worth over Rs 263 crore had been seized.

Synergy checking at Naka points on Nation Highway, State Highway and arterial roads is being done on regular basis to check drug trafficking. Intensive operations and frequent raids are being carried out at suspected places. Surprise special drives for seizure and destruction of cannabis are also being done.

As per central agencies data, Tripura figure in the 2nd largest seizure in the North East and the highest destruction of narcotics items.

Tripura Police appeal to the citizens of Tripura to share any information pertaining to narcotics with the local police and on Toll Free No. 112. The identity of the informant will be kept confidential.

The AIGP (Law and Order) gave this information in a press communique on Monday.
