No Change in Poll dates; 76 nominations received till Friday

Agartala Jan 27: Clearing its stand on a sudden notification by Election Commission that floated since Friday evening, State Election Commission’s CEO Kiran Gitte said, “There is no change in Tripura Poll dates”.

Addressing the press in a bid to clear the confusion created, Kiran Gitte said, “The notification that has created a situation of tension and resentment is the result of printing mistake and nothing else”.

“Polls will be held on earlier announced dates that is February 16 and not February 27”, he added.

The CEO further urged the media to follow State Election Commission’s social media handles for apt information and verify ant such sparkling information before publishing it.

Mentioning further improvements in course of assembly elections, Gitte said, “The last date for submission of Bank Account details of the candidate for the purpose of election expenditure is January 30”.

“The decision came after the SEC learnt that Banks will remain close for 2 days prior January 30 and therefore only for this election the rule of submitting Bank account details of candidates that must be done at least 1 day prior to last date of submission of nomination has been changed to last date of submission of nomination, January 30”.

Talking about nominations received so far, the CEO said, “A total of 76 nominations has been placed till Friday”.

The SEC further pressed that it is working hard to achieve free-fair and violence free polls.
