North SP Bhanupada Chakraborty seized 60k ‘Yaba’ tablets worth Rs 6 crores, 3 held

Agartala, May 06, 2023: Churaibari police station led by SP of North Tripura Bhanupada Chakraborty on Saturday morning seized 60 thousand ‘Yaba’ tablets worth Rs 6 crores from Assam-Agartala national highway.

SP Chakraborty received a credible information from Sonamura that a four-wheeler vehicle is arriving to Agartala from Assam.

Accordingly, acting on tip-off, Churaibari police station staff led by SP Chakraborty stopped a Mahindra Bolero vehicle bearing registration number TR01F-2938 and recovered 60 thousand ‘Yaba’ tablets after thorough search.

Speaking to media personnel on Saturday morning, Chakraborty said “I received information that this vehicle went to Assam on Friday last and will enter Tripura on Saturday morning with huge consignment of narcotic substances. Accordingly, we have been waiting for it.”

“On Saturday morning, we stopped the vehicle and seized 60,000 ‘Yaba’ tablets and arrested three persons of Dhanpur under Sonamura sub-division. They are- Subhankar Debnath, Idris Mia and Rajat Pal”, he also added.

He, however said that this tablet is very dangerous as it helps drug-addicted persons to get instigated in conducting various crimes. SP will talk with the Assam Police to find whereabouts of the collection centre.
